Amazon Music Unlimited Price Rises for Prime Members

Amazon Music has announced an increase in the monthly charge for Prime Members, who subscribe to Amazon Music Unlimited. This move was widely expected from the company’s premium music streaming service. For new customers, the price jumped from $9 to $10 per month. Existing Prime members or subscribers will continue to pay the old price until September 19, 2023, after that the new price will be in effect.

Notably, this pricing hike for new Prime members also applies to the Family Plan and Yearly Plan choices, reflecting a price change earlier this year for non-Prime customers.

Although no one likes to see their cost go up, users can often handle the price hikes. The cost of Amazon Music Unlimited is still affordable and reasonable as compared to other services like Apple Music and Spotify. The platform’s compatibility with Amazon’s selection of smart devices along with the online services is an important selling factor.

Furthermore, Amazon Music Unlimited also set itself apart from Spotify by offering C-D quality audio streaming 24-bit/192kHz, a feature that even Spotify hasn’t adopted yet.

For Prime Members, the newest Amazon Music Unlimited pricing structure is as follows:

Individual Plan$10 monthly (up $1 each month)
Family Plan$17 monthly (rise $1 monthly)
Annual Plan$100 (goes up $10)
Monthly Fee (Single Device Plan)$5/month

For Non-Prime Members, the updated Amazon Music Unlimited pricing structure is as follows:

Individual Plan$11 monthly (up $1 each month)
Family Plan$17 monthly (rise $1 monthly)
Annual PlanRequires a Prime Membership (not accessible without it)
Monthly Fee (Single Device Plan)$5/month

The year 2023, has seen a wave of price increases across many platforms when viewed in the bigger picture of the music streaming market. Others including Pandora, YouTube Premium, Tidal, Spotify, and Apple Music have additionally implemented price increases from the previous year. This pattern is predictable since other services often copy changes to one service’s pricing structure.

In many cases, rising operational costs are usually given as the main justification for these adjustments. It is noticeable that Spotify’s Individual Plan saw its first price increase this year since it first launched in 2011.

The value offer is still great for Prime Members who already have Amazon Music Unlimited Subscriptions. The service is still cost-effective and offers better sound quality than Spotify. However, Spotify provides outstanding benefits like exclusive podcasts and audiobooks. Now might be a good time to look into alternatives for those ready to spend a little extra for added value.
